Adventures in the Grand Canyon

In Adventures in the Grand Canyon, Ubercorn visits the Grand Canyon, a giant, colorful canyon made by the Colorado River. Over millions of years, the river carved through the rocks, creating layers that show off all sorts of beautiful colors. Some parts of the canyon are deep — so deep, you could stack 1,000 people on top of each other and still not reach the bottom! This video is excerpted from BBC’s Go Jetters, a series that follows the adventures of four plucky international heroes as they travel the globe visiting the world’s most famous landmarks with their friend and mentor, Ubercorn, a disco-dancing unicorn.

Q: Why do you think the Grand Canyon has so many different colors in its rock layers?
A: The different colors show that each layer was made at a different time, and each one tells us about the history of the Earth. The rocks change color because of the minerals inside them.

Q: How does the Grand Canyon change over time?
A: The canyon changes slowly, with the river continuing to wear away the rocks, and maybe new layers of rock being added. Each day, the canyon is still changing little by little!

Q: How does the size of the Grand Canyon make you feel?
A: The Grand Canyon is so big it might make you feel small, but it also feels amazing because it's so grand and beautiful. It shows how powerful nature is!
