You know that moment when a student asks a question: Why do dolphins play? How big were a T. Rex’s teeth? How much of the planet is covered with water? And you have to admit you don’t know the answer? We do! That’s why we created BBC Learning’s Kahoot! Channel

We created this tool to be more than a typical Kahoot! resource: it’s a place for kids to engage with nature, science, history, and cultural topics with our BBC experts. The combination of amazing video clips, insightful experts, and engaging Kahoot! experiences gets kids excited about learning, because we all know that, when it comes to curiosity, students’ questions are the tip of the iceberg.

As a teacher, you can follow our Channel for free resources, pay for individual Kahoot! courses, or join with a low-cost subscription that immerses students in all the BBC Kahoot! Channel has to offer.

What BBC’s Kahoot! Channel Is All About

The BBC Kahoot! Channel is completely focused on bringing BBC experts and videos into your classroom to take kids under the ocean, to the moon, back in time, and more. We’ve combined videos with games and experiences to reinforce content and vocabulary in each experience. And the combination of videos and connected content means that these activities can be used throughout the day — in whole group instruction, small group activities, and independent practice or extension.

Why Use BBC’s Kahoot! Channel in Your Classroom

At the BBC, we have videos that build the background knowledge and vocabulary kids need to research a topic or understand a complex text, so we created the BBC Kahoot! Channel to share them with teachers and make our videos classroom-ready.

Take the moon landing. Each kid comes to this topic with a different starting point. Some kids can list all the landings (and tell you about their trip to NASA) while others are just learning that we went to the moon at all. When kids meet Brian Cox and learn about the moon landing through the BBC Kahoot! Channel’s The Moon Landing, everyone gets on the same page about what happened and how. Then kids are ready to learn even more!

As video producers, we know that hearing new words in context is a great way to build vocabulary. So, BBC Kahoot! videos teach students’ new content-related vocabulary in context — like the word “mission” in relation to the moon landing.

And, every day requires differentiated instruction, which is why the BBC Kahoot! Channel has videos and activities organized into courses by topic. It’s easy to find the video you need to introduce a topic, support small group work, or assign to individual students who are ready for more. For example, start a Kahoot! lesson about the layers of skin, then assign a small group a video about melanin, and make a video about carotenoids available for kids who want to keep learning.

3 Free Kahoots!:

Surf’s Up, from Blue Planet II, is all about bottlenose dolphins and why they love to play and surf. It’s a perfect introduction to a unit on the ocean or animals.

Tyrannosaurus Rex is perfect for extra practice or a free-time activity for kids who finish early. There’s never enough time to study dinosaurs, so assigning a T. Rex Kahoot! for at-home learning is the perfect way to get more dino-time in.

The Planet’s Water, from Blue Planet I, satisfies kids’ curiosity about what’s happening with water around the world. Or use it to talk about math and science topics.

The Subscription Option

Subscribe to the BBC Kahoot! Channel for the full library of courses on science, nature, and history topics. Kids can chase any interest, completing all the connected videos in a course before moving on to the next one. (Subscribe for $3.99 per month)

Using BBC Kahoot! in Your Classroom

Here are even more ways to bring BBC Kahoot! into your classroom:

  • Prepare for literature circles: Assign students a BBC Kahoot! about a historical time period or scientific advancement that aligns with the books they’re discussing.

  • Research projects: Encourage students to explore the BBC Kahoot! courses to identify a topic they’d like to learn more about. They’ll start their research with BBC experts. For example, students learn about the planet from beloved environmentalist David Attenborough in the Seven Worlds. One Planet course.

  • Ask and answer questions: Generate questions about a topic with your class, then see if you can find answers that inspire even more questions. For example, generate questions about the human body, like:” Why do some people remember everything?” and “what makes some people super flexible?” Then use the Human Body Kahoot! experiences to answer those questions, and see what other ones students come up with, like: How can we improve our memories? How flexible can we get just by stretching?

Why You’ll Love BBC Kahoot!
