Teaching Weather and Seasons in Kindergarten
Check out all my favorite BBC videos and printables!

When you teach little ones about weather and the seasons, it’s not just about the science — it’s about sparking wonder. We’ve all seen how quickly kids light up when they spot a rainbow or notice the first snowflakes. That’s the kind of curiosity we want to bring into the classroom. The BBC Learning Hub has free videos and activities that make these big concepts fun and easy to understand, while saving you prep time. (Quick tip: you’ll need to create a free login to access everything, but it only takes a minute.) These resources are ready to help you make weather and seasons a topic your kindergarten students will never forget.
1. Video: Sarah and Duck and the Silly Umbrella
Rain, rain, go away! Even the umbrella doesn’t want to go out in the rain. A fun twist on teaching the littles how to prepare for a rainy day, even if Umbrella doesn’t want to get wet. This quick video is a great way to discuss rainy days, the appropriate clothing to wear in the rain, and some fun activities to do indoors. After watching, your kinders can draw a picture of themselves on a rainy day!
2. Video: Jump on In! The Water Cycle
The rain has fallen, and puddles are all around. Kids love jumping in the puddles, but where do they come from? Excerpted from BBC’s Ranger Hamza’s Eco Quest, this short clip features the Ramblers learning about the water cycle. And your students can, too! From puddles to rain, invite your students to think about where they see the water cycle happening around them. Then go outside and play in the rain (or create some pretend puddles made from construction paper and let your students get some exercise that way).
3. Coloring Page: Bluey's Ice Cream
Summer means our favorite cool treat! In this worksheet inspired by the Bluey episode “Ice Cream,” your students will color in fun patterns and delicious toppings. This is a great activity for learning patterns and shapes, identifying colors, and getting to know your students better as they can discuss and share their favorite colors, shapes, and ice cream flavors — yum!
4. Video: The Go Jetters Down on the Farm
The Go Jetters are having a great day of learning on the farm. They learn how to grow and care for crops in different climates. Students will learn about problem-solving and growing crops through the seasons. Stop the video partway through and ask your kids to come up with some ideas to help the Go Jetters be more successful on the farm.
5. Video: Sarah and Duck on the Snow Trail
Sarah and Duck enjoy a winter wonderland on their snow trail. This video is full of winter fun and adventure as the two friends go to the zoo to find out who left their surprise presents. What winter wonderland adventures can your students participate in? Have a discussion about winter activities: sledding, making a snowman, or ice skating. This is also a great opportunity to learn about Arctic and Antarctic animals.
6. Coloring Page: Numberblocks Snow Day
Math + seasons? Sure! Lots of fun can happen when it snows! How many fun activities and adventures can happen in a day? In this coloring page, the Numberblocks are having a fun snow day. Your kindergarteners can color all their favorite doubles, such as 4, 8, and 16, in a pretty winter scene. Ask them what winter activities they see plus what they notice about all the doubles (hint: they have even tops!).
