Vocabulary

Resorts (noun): Places where people go for vacations, often with luxury accommodations.

Endangered (adjective): At risk of disappearing forever.

Coral (noun): A small sea creature that forms part of a reef.

Mauritius is a beautiful island in the Indian Ocean. A long time ago, people from Europe came to the island and caused many plants and animals to disappear. But now, things are getting better!

What tourism is doing to help

Luxury tourism is helping protect the island's nature. Some wealthy hotels and resorts are working with people who care about the environment to bring back endangered animals and plants.

Helping species recover and grow

One way they are doing this is by creating special areas where animals can live safely. These areas help animals like pink pigeons and giant tortoises grow in numbers.

Protecting nature on land and in the sea

Also, the tourism business is helping take care of the coral reefs around the island. Coral reefs are very important because they give homes to many sea creatures.

A powerful example of working together

By supporting eco-friendly tourism, Mauritius is finding ways to protect its special nature and create a better future for both people and animals. It's a great example of how businesses can help the planet!
