A new kind of chicken is changing how we think about food!

How lab-grown meat is made

In December 2020, Singapore's 1880 restaurant became the first place to serve lab-grown chicken to customers. This chicken, called GOOD Meat, was created by the company Eat Just. Instead of raising and killing animals, they grew the meat from chicken cells in a bioreactor, a device that helps cells grow.

Singapore says it's safe — and tasty

The Singapore Food Agency approved this cultured meat, making it the first of its kind to be sold in a restaurant. Diners enjoyed dishes like bao buns and waffles made with this new chicken.

Why this could help the planet

Cultured meat could help reduce environmental problems caused by traditional farming, like greenhouse gas emissions and land use. It also addresses ethical concerns about animal welfare. While it's still new, this technology might become a common way to produce meat in the future.
