Rainforest (noun): A dense forest with a lot of rain.

Madagascar is a big island off the coast of Africa. It is home to animals that live nowhere else on Earth. If you like animals, this is the perfect place to visit!

Fossa

One of the top animals to see is the fossa. It looks like a big cat mixed with a mongoose and can grow as long as 5 feet (including its tail). Fossas live in Kirindy Forest, but they are very shy and hard to find.

Aye-aye

The aye-aye is a funny-looking animal with big eyes and long fingers. It is mostly awake at night. You might see one on Nosy Mangabe, a small island reserve, if you stay overnight.

Giraffe-necked weevil

In the rainforest of Ranomafana National Park, you can find the giraffe-necked weevil. It is a bright red bug with a superlong neck. Males use their necks to fight over a female!

Indri

The indri is the biggest lemur. It has soft black-and-white fur and makes loud, echoing calls. You can see it in Andasibe-Mantadia National Park.

Verreaux’s sifaka

At Berenty Reserve, you can see the Verreaux’s sifaka, a lemur that jumps on the ground with its arms in the air. It's very fun to watch!

Ring-tailed lemur

Last but not least is the ring-tailed lemur. It has a long tail with black and white rings and lives in groups. You can find it in Isalo National Park.
